This was my 2nd run for this year. The first one was earlier this year on Tagaytay Highlands – Mizuno Run 2010. Rexona Run 2010 was a big event that was organized by Rio [feeling close kay coach, hehe!]. The number of participants for our category was around 2800+. Imagine the multitude of people during the run [I almost collide to one lady runner who was really cute during the race. Sayang! Hehe!].
We arrived late at the venue, by the time we got there the 3km participants had already started running. I was registered for 5km, which started earlier than the 3km [way too late for my category, lol!]. With just a little warm up I began running. I started with a slow pace, since I haven’t properly trained for these kinds of events yet and my bother Josiah advised me to slow down since I’m used to a much faster pace but I get tired quickly.
By the time I reached my 2nd km I started to feel my shin hurting, the warm up earlier wasn’t enough to avoid shin splints. I tried running for a bit more, but I had to walk because I felt my shin going numb.
I met Josiah who was taking picture of the event and told him that my shin is in pain. He taught me to stretch it; he positioned my foot at the side of the gutter and told me to lean forward, he also told me to rotate my feet in the air.
The stretching helped a little to relieve the pain. Then my brother pushed me to run more by running with me. He also paced me so that I won’t run a faster pace so I could conserve my energy and wouldn’t strain my shin. Luckily we were closing in to a water station, I grabbed a powerade and continued running.
During our run we saw the afro runner. He was a bit short than what I expected, it turns out he wasn’t Coach Rio but a kid who wears an afro wig [lol].
I ended my run at a time of 44:35. Still a slow poke! Must improve my running for the next run, hopefully by then my time would be 30+ minutes.
