For our category, 22-29years old Female, 3 heats were expected based from the numbers of registered participants. But, for some reason, maybe 2/3 of the participants opted to watch the Pacquiao-Clottey Fight or maybe because it was too late before we start, less than 20 females participated in the said category.
We did 600m swim. And did I mention from the 16 participants, I was the only one who is not a swimmer? For that, I was the last one to finish the swim leg. It took me 19 grueling minutes. I failed my training buddy and my mentor, Kuya Bobong. I did not start and finish strong. It seems all my hard work did not pay off. It was unfair, I thought.
When I got off the water, it seems like a big blow had hit me. So this is how it feels like to run right after swimming. My head is spinning, my vision has turned upside down and I had shortness of breath. I only had 1minute of rest, courtesy of the transition. All I did was to wear my shoes and race bib and off I go.
The first 2 km run was the hardest part. Another group of muscle was being used and a different kind of breathing is exerted. But, after getting my rhythm back, I managed to redeem myself, surpassing more than half of the participants of our leg. I finished strong, although I did not win. But, I was happy with my performance in the run leg. I even got to finish faster than other males in the same category.
Now I know how it feels like to join an aquathlon. I know what my weakest and my strongest leg is. After this, I will train harder in preparation for next year. But for now, like my previous marathons, my aim is to finish. Fun fun aquathlons! After joining and experiencing different kinds of aquathlons, I could tell myself to be competitive. Or maybe, I will also try duathlons sometime this year.
In the meantime, I’ll enjoy my scrumptious meal with Kuya Dane, Kuya Bobong and Josiah. Happiness!
