Arriving late in the morning in Bohol is not really a good thing. The delay in my flight didn’t help either. So what should I do? Food trip!
Good thing I was with Jules then, she knows people that knows things, places and food anywhere in the Philippines. Her friend told us that we should try Kainget located somewhere in Tagbilaran City. Then Jules ask the front desk of the hotel how do we get to Kainget, the front desk told the directions and warned us that we should have a strong stomach when we eat there.
We stopped and thought of our risks. TNF Thrill of the Trail was going to start early morning next day, which is actually the sole reason why we were in Bohol, and we need to have a strong stomach in to in Kainget… We just shrugged our shoulders and went straight to Kainget.
We rode a tricycle from the hotel (15 per pax) and after 10 minutes we got down the tricycle, started walking and went down stairs to arrive in the seafront where there are a lot of food stalls all selling seafoods. 🙂
First thing that I noticed about the place is this set of plates with fresh seafood meat they call Koja (Kudja).
Koja
They said that Koja was an aphrodisiac, but it doesn’t work for me. Jules and I got curious on what the Koja looks like when unprepared so she asked one of the food vendors where they prepare the Koja and she pointed at the end of the food stalls. That’s where we found 2 people preparing the Koja.
Unprepared Koja
Hammer to open, then scoop the meat
Koja ready to eat, P30
To eat the Koja just “cook” it in vinegar and eat and enjoy the fresh seafood taste. 🙂
Another thing that caught my eye was the size of the Sinugbang Pusit (Grilled Squid).
Squid's core bigger than my fist
And after our eyes craving were satisfied it was now time to satisfy our stomachs. So we ordered
Sinugbang Isda (Grilled Fish), P75
Kinilaw na Pusit (Squid), P50
Puso (P10) and Kamote (P15)
And the Koja above. 🙂
This definitely is a must try when you go to Bohol.

i missed eating kooja. we do buy it here in kainget. though the place is not so appealing to dip in the sea, compared to panglao’s. 🙂
I agree with the place not appealing to dip. But I might rethink if they teach me how to get the kooja from its natural habitat. 🙂
ang sarap ng sinugba… ginutom ako lakas! 😆
this food is really yummy and only in bohol! tastes similar to talaba but less saltier.
