I have been thinking about having good coffee and how much it affects my life and finances. Buying a coffee from Starbucks or Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf is not cheap. One can go cheaper by buying their coffee beans or going to the grocery to buy coffee beans and have it brewed in your own home.
I encountered this dilemma when I was reading Randell Tiongson’s book titled Money Manifesto: Lessons in Personal Finance where he tackles on the last chapter about coffee and finances. He mentioned about where I could buy coffee beans for a much cheaper price in Baguio Public Market yet with good quality. I actually forgot about this due to the many activities that we were doing in Baguio.
When I called my mother on what pasalubong she wants, she told me that I should go to Baguio Public Market and buy Benguet Bleand and Sagada coffee beans and have it grinded. This was when the chapter on the book came back to me. It made me excited to see where I could source this affordable coffee beans.
The morning before we head home to Manila, we passed by the market and asked around where we could buy coffee. It was not hard to find since everybody knows where it was.

Garcia’s Pure Coffee and Kape Umali are just beside each other.
When we got there, there were two stores that sells the coffees – Garcia’s Pure Coffee and Kape Umali. We checked the prices and since they have the same rates we decided to buy at Garcia’s Pure Coffee (actually because I already took a lot of photos there).

Garcia’s Pure Coffee
I’ll be putting the details (contact number, operating hours, etc) of Garcia’s Pure Coffee and Kape Umali at the end of this post.
Here’s what I saw at Garcia’s Pure Coffee. Warning lots of photos of Coffee Beans.
I then ordered for a kilogram of Benguet Blend and Sagada Dark Roast. I also requested for them to grind it finely. They told me that their grinder can only grind not as fine as I wanted it to be and their staff showed me a sample of how grinded their coffee are. I was happy with how big their grind was and ask them to proceed.
We also saw that they had Tablea (Chocolate) and we ordered one.
While we were waiting for our coffee to finish grinding, we saw one of the customers asked for a mix Benguet and Arabica. The staff then scooped a little from Benguet then scooped a little from Arabica and again until it reached the desired amount of the customer. Then the staff grinded the coffee mix.
When they were finished grinding our coffee they placed them on paper bags and written a label on which is the Sagada Dark Roast and which is the Benguet Blend, then they placed the eached paper bag into a plastic for extra protection.
We paid for the coffee and the chocolate tablea that we bought.
- Sagada Dark Roast – 360 Pesos/kg
- Benguet Blend – 220 Pesos/kg
- Chocolate Tableya – 95 Pesos/kg
Here are some photos of the grinded coffee beans when I came back home.
Here’s a little secret, staying at The Manor will give you access to really good coffee. 😉

hello , agdamagak man nu gumatgatang kayo paylng ti robusta coffee bean? tnx
Hi! been to the marketplace to buy coffee beans twice while visiting Baguio. I prefer Sagada Dark than the Benguet coffee. Sagada is sweet and very aromatic while the benguet type has a strong bittery taste for me. Also try Butterscoth, Hazelnut they the best of the best for us and of course the French Roast (Kape Umali special). I kind of bought some flavors to test taste and preffered that 4 flavors so far. Hope this helps
