A friend of mine was visiting and wanted to eat at Maginhawa Street in Quezon City. The problem is I do not know where to eat there! Luckily, I was at SparkLab Innovation Center and asked friends on where to eat good Filipino food in Maginhawa. One of them suggested Gerry’s Jeepney and two other’s agreed with an exclamation point. Therefore, we dined at Gerry’s Jeepney.
Getting to Gerry’s Jeepney
From Sparklab Innovation Center we went to the line of tricycles and told the driver to drop us off at Gerry’s Jeepney. After around 5 minutes he dropped us off at Gerry’s Jeepney and asked for the fare of 18 Pesos for 2 persons.
I did not do any research prior to our visit at Gerry’s Jeepney that’s why I was surprised to see jeepneys as dining areas. Though jeepneys for me symbolizes public transporation that goes through traffic and sometimes crazy drivers, this one has a fun vibe. A good environment for family and friends to get together.
If we wanted to dine inside the jeepneys we would need to wait in line, but we were really hungry so we chose the table near the wash area.
They also have an aircon area where you can also dine. We tried dining there but the aircon was directly blowing cold air to the only table available.

Picking our food
We called on the waiter and asked for the menu. The food sounded yummy when reading but we decided to still ask the waiter on what their best sellers were. He told us if we’re a group Ayala would be a good choice, and if we’re ordering ala carte all the food that has photos in the menu are their best sellers.
Since we were only 2 persons we decided to go with the ala carte. We chose the following.
- Jeepney Fried Rice (130 Pesos/order)
- Binagoongang Lechon Kawali with Pritong Talong (220 Pesos/order)
- Pinaputok na Tilapia (200 Pesos/order)
- 2 Coca-Cola in Can (45 Pesos/can)
The waiter told us to wait for around 20-30 minutes for our food to arrive. All that’s left is for us to practice the art of conversation and check on what else goes around Gerry’s Jeepney.
The Food
After around 20 minutes of waiting our orders came.
Amount per Order
Gerry’s Jeepney serves a generous amount per order. I think per order that we made is good for 3-4 persons. Imagine our surprise when they served the food.
We were not able to finish all the food, so we decided to have them be packed so I could take it back home to enjoy another day.
Jeepney Fried Rice
Jeepney Fried Rice is fried rice topped with fried dried dilis, egg, onion leaves and tomato. To enjoy this we mixed the rice all together with the toppings.
I’m not really fond of the dilis with my rice since it has this crunchy texture while the rice has a soft texture. Too contrasting for me. But overall it was a good partner with the Pinaputok na Tilapia and Binagoongang Lechon Kawali with Pritong Talong.
Pinaputok na Tilapia
This baked Tilapia stuffed with onion and tomato is one of my favorite. The fish was cooked right and the taste was light. Just the right contrast for the Binagoongang Lechon Kawali with Pritong Talong.
Binagoongang Lechon Kawali with Pritong Talong
Lechon Kawali, bagoong and talong. Three of my favorite food in the world combined in one! The best!!!
It was a bit salty but that’s the reason we ordered Jeepney Fried Rice anyway.
High recommended to order!

Condiments
We were served with this small bowl with Calamansi and Chili. We requested for a toyo (soy sauce) and mixed them together. This was our sauce for the Pinaputok na Tilapia.
Would I recommend Gerry’s Jeepney?
Yes! I would highly recommend Gerry’s Jeepney. I enjoyed the place and especially their food.
In fact, I’m looking for my eating friends to try this one out again. I want to try their Ayala platter for 2-4 persons!
By the way, they also sell Puto Bumbong and Bibingka.

How to get there
I have only visited the Maginhawa Branch so that’s what I will be writing on.
If you are coming from EDSA, you can ride a bus up to PhilCoA. Then from PhilCoA ride a tricycle to Gerry’s Jeepney.
That is the coolest idea for presenting filipino food in a very matching style. I love both, the Jeepney and the food of the Philippines!
