If you plan to take the Public Jeepneys to go back to Banaue, then here are the information you should know.
Time of Availability: 5 AM to 11AM. All jeeps leave to Banaue in the morning. No afternoon trips.
Fare and travel time are same as the public jeepney to Hungduan.
Note: According to the locals of Hungduan, you must ride the jeepneys from 5AM to 8AM as many jeepneys pass by at that time. After 8AM the frequency is really low and has a higher tendency to be full, when that happens you may not be able to ride the public jeepney.
What ifs
What if I’m going to Sagada?
What I did was I waited at the road at Hapao around 5:30AM and I arrived around 7AM in Banaue. I ate breakfast at a karinderya in Banaue then rode the jeepney to Bontoc.
The jeepney to Bontoc, Mountain Province leaves around 8:30AM. From Bontoc, there are a lot of jeepneys going to Sagada, last trip will is 5:30PM. Jeepney fare is 150 Pesos/person. Travel Time is
If you arrive at Banaue late for the 8:30AM jeepney to Bontoc then your second chance would be the three buses passing by Banaue to Bontoc. These buses will pass by Banaue around 11:30AM to 12:30PM. Bus fare is 120 Pesos/person. Travel Time is approximately 2 hours 30 mins.
What if I’m going to Batad?
Since the highly advised time to ride the jeeps are only up to 8AM, then I suggest you ride the 8AM jeepney. You’ll arrive at Banaue around 9:30AM. The jeepney to Saddle Point of Batad leaves around 3PM, but it is advisable that you tell the driver that you are riding before the scheduled time, around 12NN would be the advisable time. Fare is 150 Pesos/person (tourist price) and travel time is approximately 1 hour 30 mins.
What if I’m going to take the bus back to Manila?
This one is my most hated option. Not because going back to Manila means my travel will end but you’ll have to think of ways to pass the time.
You need to leave around 8AM from Hungduan (same reason if you’re going to Batad) and You’ll arrive at around 9:30AM. The first bus that will leave from Banaue to Manila is scheduled at 6:45PM. To pass the time I suggest you go to the viewpoints without hiring a tricycle. That’s 4kms uphill and 4 kms downhill. If that’s not enough then you could go to the Cordillera Sculpture Museum.
For more information about the schedule and rates of the bus going back to Manila from Banaue click here.
Let’s make an effort to preserve Hungduan, Ifugao as enchanting as I have experienced it.
- Keep your trash and throw it on proper disposal bins.
- Respect the locals.
- Keep the noise low as not to disturb locals and other travellers.
- Be mindful of others.
- Do not vandalize.
- And most of all, be contented with the simple life they have. What happens in the city should stay in the city.
- To trip organizers, whether personal or professional, you are responsible to educate the people you are with about responsible travelling and encourage them to practice it before going to any destination.
Let us not change Hungduan, let it change us.
