I had to cancel my bus from Eastern Samar to Manila due to the strong winds of Tropical Storm Pedring last September 26, 2011. Somehow, I wanted to go back to Manila as soon as possible because I had to finish a project but deep inside I was actually happy that I got stranded in the region. Happy that I can go to the highly recommended Luksoon Cave by my relatives.
Having lightless nights means cooking at the dark and eating with a setting of a candle light dinner. Not on a date but this time with your family.
Having lightless nights means that houses with generators could have a business by charging cellphones for 20 Pesos per 4 hours.
Having lightless nights means making makeshift lamps by getting an empty can, filling it with coconut husks and pouring gas to it. The light will last the whole night. Just be careful not to topple the can.
Having lightless nights means no electric fans inside the house making people go out and gather.
Having lightless nights creates friendship.
When the electricity came back people shouted hoorays, went their separate ways to watch TV, charge their cellphones and feel the breeze of their electric fans. Going back to the same old quiet town of Balangkayan.
