Ateneo Aquathlon 2010: Cat’s Perspective

March 21, 2010 by Cat Leave a Comment

For our category, 22-29years old Female, 3 heats were expected based from the numbers of registered participants. But, for some reason, maybe 2/3 of the participants opted to watch the Pacquiao-Clottey Fight or maybe because it was too late before we start, less than 20 females participated in the said category.

We did 600m swim. And did I mention from the 16 participants, I was the only one who is not a swimmer? For that, I was the last one to finish the swim leg. It took me 19 grueling minutes. I failed my training buddy and my mentor, Kuya Bobong. I did not start and finish strong. It seems all my hard work did not pay off. It was unfair, I thought.

It’s almost a week now since the Ateneo Aquathlon 2010 event, I was not a participant there but I went coz’ my younger brother [/boss] Josiah [Sai] asked me to take pictures while he and Cat partake in the event. It’s my first time witnessing an aquathlon, coz’ I’ve only been to a marathon when I joined Kenny’s Urbanite Run 2009. Ever since then I couldn’t get myself to drag my feet out of the bed and join another marathon, as those kinds of activities usually takes place early in the morning [way too early for an insomniac like me].

Ateneo Aquathlon 2010: Josiah’s Perspective

March 15, 2010 by Josiah 6 Comments

I’ve been waiting for my first aquathlon for almost a year and now I am a proud finisher of an aquathlon. By experience, now I know that it is true what they said about aquathlons, it’s twice as demanding as running and the experience was also twice the fun.

The race started at 11:30am for my age category and when the start was near it was all mixed excitement for my first aquathlon and fear that I won’t finish. The plan was simple, do not care about the pace of others and go with my own speed, my goal is just to finish.

It was 600 meters of swim first. Think about 100 men swimming on an 8 lane 25 meter pool, the probability of competitors bumping each other was very high. It was a good thing that my cousin, Enna a member of Trantados, briefed me well on this. I got kicked on the face and I got bumped many times, but it was OK, it was all unintentional (I hope). I think I also kicked someone, revenge is sweet. Just joking, it was all unintentional.
