Baguio City Public Market | The Best Place To Buy Pasalubong

July 7, 2018 by Josiah 1 Comment

Our visit to Baguio City will not be complete without a trip to the Baguio City Public Market. Located right in the heart of Baguio City near Burnham Park we can always stroll by whenever we are near. Usually, it does not happen that way. The best time to go here is when we are about to go home because of pasalubongs!

Baguio City Public Market

The public market is quite big, there the wet section where you can find meats, vegetable sections where you can find vegetables (duh!), pasalubong section, rice, coffee, and many more.

5 Reasons the Traveloka App is Your Best Friend for a Comfy Baguio Vacation

May 25, 2017 by Josiah Leave a Comment

One of my favorite destinations is Baguio, my main reason is I love cool weather, and aside from this there are a lot of places to visit, food to eat and things to do. With so many things to do in Baguio often times first time travelers and even seasoned travelers gets intimidated, especially when looking for a place to stay in the Summer Capital of the Philippines. That is why you should try the Traveloka App on your next visit to Baguio.

The Manor in Camp John Hay

I have used the Traveloka App a couple of times already during  my travels and it was really helpful when booking flights and hotels. But let me focus on why it should be one of your apps to install when visiting Baguio.

1. Filter Options for List of Hotels

I am a traveler who prefers to stay near parks since generally parks are more quiet than shopping areas. For practicality, I also prefer staying near shopping areas, not because I like shopping, but because that’s where convenience stores and restaurants are located most of the time.

To filter your results select Baguio City as your place of destination then set the other needed details such as number of nights, persons and rooms then hit search. Once the resulting list comes up press Filter on the bottom right of the screen and you can filter the results as much as you want.

Coffee Beans at Baguio Public Market

March 17, 2017 by Josiah 10 Comments

I have been thinking about having good coffee and how much it affects my life and finances. Buying a coffee from Starbucks or Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf is not cheap. One can go cheaper by buying their coffee beans or going to the grocery to buy coffee beans and have it brewed in your own home.

Coffee lovers haven in Baguio. There are two shops that sells Roasted Coffee Beans in Baguio Public Market. Namely Garcia's Pure Coffee and Kape Umali. We bought a kilo of Sagada Dark Roast Coffee (360 Pesos/kg) and a kilo of Benguet Blend Coffee (220 Pesos/kg). We had grinded finely so that I could use it with our coffee maker. This is now one of the places that I should visit when I am in Baguio. #Baguio #BaguioCity #Benguet #Philippines #Market #PublicMarket #Coffee #CoffeeBean #TheForestLodge #TheManor

I encountered this dilemma when I was reading Randell Tiongson’s book titled Money Manifesto: Lessons in Personal Finance where he tackles on the last chapter about coffee and finances. He mentioned about where I could buy coffee beans for a much cheaper price in Baguio Public Market yet with good quality. I actually forgot about this due to the many activities that we were doing in Baguio.

When I called my mother on what pasalubong she wants, she told me that I should go to Baguio Public Market and buy Benguet Bleand and Sagada coffee beans and have it grinded. This was when the chapter on the book came back to me. It made me excited to see where I could source this affordable coffee beans.

The morning before we head home to Manila, we passed by the market and asked around where we could buy coffee. It was not hard to find since everybody knows where it was.

Garcia’s Pure Coffee and Kape Umali are just beside each other.

When we got there, there were two stores that sells the coffees – Garcia’s Pure Coffee and Kape Umali. We checked the prices and since they have the same rates we decided to buy at Garcia’s Pure Coffee (actually because I already took a lot of photos there).

Garcia’s Pure Coffee

I’ll be putting the details (contact number, operating hours, etc) of Garcia’s Pure Coffee and Kape Umali at the end of this post.

After picking up my pre-ordered Lemon Pie from Lemon Pie House in Sagada, Mountain Province around 6AM I was hurrying back to my lodge to pick up my stuff and run to the bus station to reach the 7AM trip to Baguio. I’ve heard stories of people unable to ride the bus due to many travellers wanting to go out of Sagada that’s why I went to the bus station early but since I was going down on a Saturday there were only a few people.

Bus from Sagada to Baguio

Bus to Baguio at Sagada

The Lizardo Trans Bus started moving at around 7:15 AM and I loved the view of the clouds being lower than us.

Then it changed to the rice terraces and rivers.

Just before we reached the intersection of the road to Sagada and Halsema Highway

Then after some time the crops turned from rice to mountains of cabbage.
