Sunrise Walk at Sabang Beach, Baler

August 24, 2011 by Josiah Leave a Comment

I admit I am a fan of fast travels but many times I still long for that slow walks on the beach while sunrise and luckily, I did it in Sabang Beach in Baler, Aurora.

Double lucky, one of my friends also woke up early to see the sunrise.

One of the reasons why I love Sabang Beach is that it is not white sand. It has a distinct dark color that does not reflect much light making it soothing to the eyes even at high noon. Also Sabang Beach is mostly sand that can be enjoyed by walking barefoot.

Add to that is that it stretches very far that when you’re walking without a time limit you could just go on and on and on.

I never really paid attention to how clean the surroundings were in Baler, Aurora until I saw this group of people cleaning Sabang Beach.

I then realized that on my two visits to Baler I never complained on how dirty or littery the place was. In Sabang Beach, on roads, in the town center. Baler, Aurora is a generally clean municipality.

I went to the cleaners and asked them a few question. They told me that they were a Baler based organization that helps to clean up the place. They do not clean the beach everyday, but different organizations help in cleaning up their municipality.

Baler’s PAGASA Weather Station

August 17, 2011 by Josiah Leave a Comment

When we were deciding on where to go site seeing in Baler, our friend from Baler told us that we should go to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Weather Station. It was just up a hill and from the base of the hill it would take us only 10 minutes to get there. Little did we know that the Hill was STEEP! with only a single road. Luckily going up there we did not meet with other vehicles that are going down.

So was the ride going up the steep hill worth it? It’s a definite YES! Since we were on top of a hill, the view offers a 360 degree view when you are on top of their building. You can see the Dicasalarin Bay and other parts beaches and islands of Aniao.

Participating in a Fishing Tradition in Baler

August 16, 2011 by Josiah 4 Comments

I saw this process on my first time in Sabang Beach, Baler, Aurora; unfortunately, I did not have a camera then so I did not get to document the fishing tradition Pukot.

You could easily spot fishing by the process of Pukot at Sabang Beach when you see people lining up and pulling a rope from the sea.

The following are the procedure on how they perform the Pukot:

  1. A boat carrying a lambat (fish net) would go to the sea and place it such that it is widely spread to
