February 12, 2018 by Josiah 1 Comment

Cebu, a province in the Philippines’ Central Visayas Region is one of the country’s top tourist destinations. Heralded as the “Queen City of the South,” tourism numbers are high here; in fact, it draws about two million foreign tourists year in and year out. In line with this, the number of travel packages and deals to Cebu are booming.Cebu, Philippines

Wondering what attracts tourists to this province? Well, it’s the white-sand beaches, spectacular diving spots, and good food! Simply put, it’s a haven if you’re a foodie who wants to indulge in mouthwatering meals that only the province of Cebu can offer. The question still stands, though: where should you eat if you head over to the “Queen City of the South?” Worry no more since we’ve got you covered.

Carcar Lechon

Remember, your Cebu escapade won’t be complete without a taste of lechon de Cebu and what better place to try it than in Carcar Lechon, which is known among locals as the Queen of all lechons. Their variety comes packed with mouthwatering flavors since their pigs are bathed in broth as well as drippings before being cooked. While there, treat yourself to crispy golden red skin, tender meat, layers of fat, and so on. Mouthwatering indeed!

Circa 1850 Restaurant in Red Planet, Cagayan de Oro City

February 5, 2017 by Josiah 2 Comments

It was a slow morning of January 2017 when we stayed at Red Planet in Cagayan de Oro City. Since we wanted to take the day slow we decided to have our breakfast at Circa 1850 because it located at the first floor entrance of Red Planet. And that breakfast was followed by dinner and breakfast the next day.

Before going down we decided to bring our laptops so that after breakfast we would proceed to work in the hopes of having good ambience and fast WiFi. I am happy to say that Circa 1850 Eatery has its own WiFi and it was really fast.

Let us move on to what really matters about Circa 1850.

Ambience

In terms of ambience Circa 1850 was really classy. Wooden tables and chairs with bricks on the walls. I loved it! I am a fan of wood and bricks.

Also the distance of each chair was really roomy which gave a really good feeling since you would not be wary of hitting the other table. Or when you stand you don’t have to worry too much that you would interrupt other tables when heading to the comfort room.

Gerry’s Jeepney in Maginhawa Street, Quezon City

November 18, 2016 by Josiah 1 Comment

A friend of mine was visiting and wanted to eat at Maginhawa Street in Quezon City. The problem is I do not know where to eat there! Luckily, I was at SparkLab Innovation Center and asked friends on where to eat good Filipino food in Maginhawa. One of them suggested Gerry’s Jeepney and two other’s agreed with an exclamation point. Therefore, we dined at Gerry’s Jeepney.

  • Operating Hours
  • Contact Numbers
  • How to get there

If you're looking for good Filipino food I highly recommend Gerry's Jeepney in Maginhawa.

Getting to Gerry’s Jeepney

From Sparklab Innovation Center we went to the line of tricycles and told the driver to drop us off at Gerry’s Jeepney. After around 5 minutes he dropped us off at Gerry’s Jeepney and asked for the fare of 18 Pesos for 2 persons.

I did not do any research prior to our visit at Gerry’s Jeepney that’s why I was surprised to see jeepneys as dining areas. Though jeepneys for me symbolizes public transporation that goes through traffic and sometimes crazy drivers, this one has a fun vibe. A good environment for family and friends to get together.

Ukrainian Kitchen: Odessa Mama Street Cafe in El Nido, Palawan, Philippines

May 28, 2016 by Josiah Leave a Comment

Last March 2016 in El Nido, Palawan I was doing what most solo travelers do when they get bored, wandered around aimlessly looking for something interesting. Since I have been to El Nido countless times, I was looking for something new, specifically something that would get my attention gastronomically. That was when I saw this new brightly lit restaurant in town, Odessa Mama Street Cafe.

Their sign says “Cooked with love. Ukrainian Kitchen.” I have lived more than two decades in Manila and traveled around the country but it was my first time seeing a Ukrainian Restaurant. Where was Ukraine in the map? What do they eat? I decided to head back to my accommodation and do some research on Ukraine and what they eat but then it hit me. I have to set my priorities – eat now, research later. And like a little boy on his first day at school, I went inside knowing nothing.

I saw foreigners in the kitchen that were talking to each other and I have no idea what they were talking about (Language barrier). That’s a good sign that this is an authentic Ukrainian Restaurant. Then I looked at their menu, and guess what? I have no idea what the names of their food were, another good sign that this is an authentic Ukrainian Restaurant.

I looked at their menu and tried to understand everything that I could. I do not know what to order! There’s nothing with rice except for that small sentence below their menu.

I asked the help of their Filipino staff to help me choose, they recommended Cheburek Beef & Cheese. It was good but I shall go into their food deeper somewhere below this line. I was thinking of getting some rice but then I decided that if I’m going Ukrainian, I’m going 100% Ukrainian. No rice. (But with coke, since I love its fizzling sugary goodness.)
