Rice Terraces Marathon 2011

May 12, 2011 by Josiah Leave a Comment

During our leisurely walk around Bokiawan, Hungduan for the Tungoh Ad Hungduan I saw these carved sculptures.

Carved Trophies of the Rice Terraces Run from Banaue to HungduanCarver at HungduanThe carver of the sculptures said that it was a trophy for a race. I mistook the race for the Hungduan Climbathon 2011 since it was the reason why I’m in Hungduan.

Nearing the end of our walk we passed by the Tourism Office where I saw this poster of a

Hungduan Tramline

May 1, 2011 by Josiah 10 Comments

Ate Weng Sicat, the local DOT Officer,  showed this one of a kind zipline-like ride in Hungduan.

It is operated by an engine that push and pulls the ride and could carry a weight of 200kg from one mountain side to the other.

Excitedly, I asked Ate Weng if I could ride, then I got this look telling me that I could not ride the tramline. She then explained that the tramline is NOT FOR PEOPLE TO RIDE, but to help the locals to transport palay and

Hungduan Climbathon 2011: A Volunteer’s Perspective

April 29, 2011 by Josiah Leave a Comment

The Hungduan Climbathon is a 21-km mountain running race traversing the historical Mt Napulauan in Ifugao Province, starting from Bokiawan Information Center, will pass through the world-famous rice terraces, ascend to the peak, and descend to the finish line at the Municipal Ground, Poblacion Hungduan. At a maximum elevation of 2642 meters asl, this race is officially classified as a SKYRACE, a mountain trail running race at high altitude.

Only one thing came to my mind. I must go there!

Unfortunately, I was undertrained and had to undergo a minor operation that made competing our of the options. Thus, as a photography enthusiast and a member of the Philippines Skyrunning Association (PSA), I volunteered to document the event! 🙂

Hungduan is one of those places where I have second thoughts of sharing to people. It’s wonderful Rice Terraces and kind people makes me want to bring everyone there, yet I have to stop and rethink because if too many people go there, the amount of garbage and clashing of mountain culture and city culture may destroy the place. So why am I sharing this to you? It’s because I trust the local Department of

Hunt for the Ifugao Weaved Coin Purse

April 19, 2011 by Josiah 2 Comments

Old Coin Purse (April 2008)

Last April 2008 I bought a weaved coin purse in Banaue Rice Terraces Viewpoint for 10 Pesos (Affordable!). I just needed a coin purse to organize my noisy coins  and did not consider the quality nor how good it looked. I only knew that by buying this small piece of weaving I am able to support the local businesses of the Ifugao people. Besides, if it gets damaged or destroyed by carrying a lot of my coins it will not bother me since it only cost 10 Pesos.

Other than a few notices from my friends that I had a cool looking coin purse, I never gave much attention to it. When it started deteriorating last December 2010, I looked back and realized that
