Iligan City

Where to Stay in Iligan City, Philippines

May 12, 2015 by Josiah 9 Comments

Since we were finished visiting Dalipuga Falls at around 12:20 PM, we decided to visit some accommodations in Iligan City just to document the rooms, prices and other details.

I admit I have not stayed in any of these accommodations as having friends in Iligan City has its perks.

The accommodations listed below do not allow advance reservation. If you want to book in advance you may check Iligan City’s Agoda Listing here.

Here are four accommodations in Iligan City that we visited on that day. These are arranged in the order of our visit to each accommodation. Also, there are many other accommodation in Iligan City, these are just the accommodations we had time to visit.

  • Famous Pension House
  • Jasmine Pension Home
  • D’Morvie Suites
  • Alya Vista Lodge

Please note that details such as prices, locations might change without prior notice. Also note that our visit to the accommodations happened last November 25, 2014.

Famous Pension House

Since we were coming from Dalipuga Falls, Famous Pension House was the first on our list of accommodations to visit as this is the farthest from the city proper of Iligan City. But this one is the nearest from the bus station bound for Cagayan de Oro.

Famous Pension House

It’s relatively cheap as the most affordable rooms are around 300 Pesos/room/night good for 2 persons. The con only of this accommodation is that you cannot reserve ahead of time. They only allow walk-in guests.

They are located behind the Adventist Medical Center in Iligan City. Just across the street of Milestone Drive. They also have other branches in Iligan City. You can check-out their vicinity in Google Map here.

My Top Things to Do in Iligan City, Philippines

January 26, 2015 by Josiah 18 Comments

For a small city, Iligan City has many interesting things you can try. Most of what’s written below are about food but what Iligan can be proud of is their waterfalls. In fact Iligan City is nicknamed the City of Majestic Waterfalls.

Here are interesting things you can do and places to visit in Iligan City as part of my Travel Guide there.

Dodiongan Falls in Iligan City, Philippines

Dodiongan Falls

1. Waterfalling

Waterfalling actually means waterfalls hopping and in Iligan you can do this as most of the waterfalls are just less than an hour from the city proper. But if you have limited time you should not miss Tinago Falls, Maria Cristina Falls and Dodiongan Falls.

If you have not been to the waterfalls of Iligan City, then you have not been to Iligan City.

Lechon in Iligan City, Philippines

2. Lechon

Of all the Lechons in the Philippines, this lechon from Iligan City is the best for me. And I know a lot of people who says that this is the best lechon in the country. Our family would even order lechon from Iligan to be brought to Manila during big gatherings. Don’t believe me? Try it first before you say anything.

1. Where is Iligan City?

Iligan City is not really that famous when it comes to tourism here in the Philippines. I bet most of you would not even know where Iligan City is.

Iligan City is located in the Philippines… In Mindanao to be a little specific… Northern Mindanao to be specific.

Iligan City is located in the Province of Lanao del Norte. But don’t get the wrong idea, it’s only geographically located inside Lanao del Norte but its administration is independent from that of the Province of Lanao del Norte.

Cheding's Peanuts in Iligan City, Philippines

One of the reasons why I always avail of check-in luggage when I go to Iligan City is the Cheding’s Toasted Peanuts, or just Cheding’s Peanut. Cheding’s Peanut is widely known in Iligan as the tasty peanut that came from Iligan. It’s really good that when my uncle who works abroad knew that I was documenting Iligan City he told me that I should buy him 2 kilos of the peanuts. When I went home I had 4 kilos of Cheding’s Peanut in 1/4 kilo packages (52.50 Pesos/piece). Then the half-kilo of peanuts we placed during the my Lolo’s birthday party was quickly consumed.

When I was still in College I went to Iligan and gave my classmates Cheding’s Peanut and all those who gave feedback said that it tasted good.

Macaraeg-Macapagal House in Iligan City, Philippines

10:38 AM – We were out of the gate of Dela Mar Resort (Timoga Cold Springs) in the outskirts of Iligan City. Our plan was to do a short walk to the Macaraeg-Macapagal Ancestral House. A very short walk, in fact it was just located beside the Dela Mar Resort.

10:40 AM – The gates of the Macaraeg-Macapagal Ancestral House were closed and I was afraid that it was closed for the day. But Lisa Marie went to the small gate and softly called out “Ayo. Ayo.” to get the attention of the people inside. Then a lady appeared and let us in.

After a brief hi and hello, she presented us their log book for us to register. There was a box for donation and we donated around 50 Pesos.
