Basco Lighthouse and Naidi Hill in Basco, Batan Island, Batanes

After our visit from Vayang Rolling Hills our van went to the top of Naidi Hill where the Basco Lighthouse is located.

Basco Lighthouse was constructed on March 2003 to help on the navigation for local fisherman and ships and a the same time for tourists to visit.

By the way, this tour was the Batan Island Tour by Wakay  Tours where we get to appreciate lots of places in Batan Island.

Here is what happened during our visit to the lighthouse.

11:51 AM We arrived at Basco Lighthouse

6 minutes travel time by van from Vayang Rolling Hills.

It was still drizzling when we arrived at Basco Lighthouse but that did not stop us from visiting. In Batanes where there is a drizzle there is wind and it was fun and challenging, especially when you can’t stabilize your camera when holding it up in the air.

Here is a photo of a sign which tells the history of Basco Lighthouse.

There’s a wide area with benches where you can sit and look at the lighthouse or Batanes Bay.

Lighthouse at Brooke’s Point, Palawan

March 4, 2013 by Josiah Leave a Comment

After our adventure trek to Bacbacan Falls, Makinit Hot Spring and Cabcaben River the next stop of our Tricycle tour around Brooke’s Point, Palawan would be to go around their town proper. And our goal was to visit the famous lighthouse reportedly build by Sir James Brooke himself. We went there after a quick visit at St. Joseph Parish Church, also located at the town proper.

Upon arrival at the Brooke’s Point Lighthouse, the gate was closed and we asked around on how we could get to the other side of the gate to get near the lighthouse. A lady pointed us to a Philippine Coast Guard, one of the few that were guarding and operating the lighthouse. We asked kindly if we could enter to get close to the lighthouse and luckily, he opened the gate and let us through.

There were two lighthouse inside. One was tall, white and new, it was the new and operational one to guide seafarers. The smaller one was the original lighthouse that was believed to be build by the British explorer Sir James Brooke.

Dong Ho was the first one to go up the smaller lighthouse while I was observing a peculiar stove that borders between the medieval and the modern.

Cape Bolinao Lighthouse in Pangasinan

  • Additional Note

Our tricycle increased its speed when we were approaching the Cape Bolinao Lighthouse but the road to the lighthouse was too steep that we stopped halfway and the tricycle scarily skid a little before we stopped fully. We quickly went out to lessen the weight of the tricycle. Our driver then advised us to walk to the lighthouse, even if he does not advise us we would happily walk than to risk getting into an accident.

Steep uphill to Cape Bolinao Lighthouse

Unfortunately, we were not able to go inside the lighthouse because it was locked. According to our tricycle driver if the one guarding the lighthouse was there we could have gotten permission to climb. O well, it was still great to see a lonely sentinel again.

Divinubo Island Eco Tour Park

I love Samar! They have lots of Eco Tourism Parks like Minasangay Island and Divinubo Island Eco Tour Park.

Divinubo Island is located near Borongan, Eastern Samar and the jump-off point for the public boats are at Lalawigan. The Eco Tour Park is managed by the Community-Based Resource Management (CBRM) Program and was a way for the baranggay to sustain the natural beauty and biodiversity of the place at the same time earn a little income.

Is the island worth going? YES! Better if you spend the night there with your hammock. If you get there around 4PM you may be able to see the sunset with the view of mainland Samar.
