2013: Starting off where my promise ended

January 10, 2013 by Josiah 3 Comments

Currently, I’m in my late 20’s and for my birthday this year I’m going to be in my later 20’s. One fact still remains, I haven’t stepped out of the Philippines.

Why’s that? I made a promise to myself that I would not travel outside the country up to the year 2012.

Carabao Island in Romblon

When I graduated from college people asked me on what my plans were. I said I’ll work.

They said where. I answered in Metro Manila.

They said I should work on other countries. I said no.

2012: A Year of Planning, Moving, Slowing Down and Change of Plans

December 28, 2012 by Josiah 16 Comments

At the end of the year 2011 I had this strong feeling that my 2012 would be more awesome than the year before. I did not know how it would be more awesome but there’s that irrational sense of optimism within me that is ready to burst when 2012 arrived.

How did things go with my 2012? Here’s a month by month summary of the journeys I embarked upon.

January

With my irrational sense of optimism I launched my 12 for 2012 Travel Project which aims to document a place each month throughout the year around the Philippines to help travellers explore our country.

The first location for my travel project was Bolinao and Alaminos in the Province of Pangasinan where I was accompanied by Laiza of AzialBatangGala.com. We visited 3 caves with freshly cool water inside, a lighthouse, the white-gold colored beach of Patar, an old church, a marine laboratory and the Hundred Islands National Park.

Then I boarded a plane to the longest travel I will be doing away from home. It’s pursuing my dream of establishing a farm in Palawan.

When I arrived in Palawan I heard that my friends were going to visit Alimanguan in San Vicente, Palawan which I hesitated to invite myself but eventually did due to my itchy fit. I did not know then that Alimanguan was on the northern end of the Longest Beach in the Philippines.

February

Since I wanted to start a farm, an organic farm to be exact, I needed to equip myself with the proper knowledge and skills. I inquired at the Department of Agriculture on where they could provide training for Organic Farming and they said it would be in the off-the-beaten path baranggay of Caruray in San Vicente, Palawan! So for the following weeks I had to go back and fort riding the truck that looks like a jeepney through the bumpy road to Caruray which passes by a steep road that the locals call Ay Dios Ko (Oh My God in English).

A Peso a Day Makes Your Travel Dreams on the Way

June 14, 2012 by Josiah 14 Comments

I have climbed the highest mountain in the Philippines, I have hiked for 14 hours for 2 days to reach the peak of Mount Pulag via Ambaguio Trail, I also swam for 1.9 kms on a man-made lake that smelled like athletes foot and ran for 23 kms to the top of Mount Santo Tomas in Baguio and back down. I happily do crazy things while travelling but I hate walking to the bank and lining up while “preferred clients” gets prioritized.

I resigned from work almost a year ago to travel and pursue my dreams of becoming a businessman in slippers and camisa de chino. Honestly, I made a turn on the rough road but it has been an incredible bumpy ride.

I won’t lie to you, money is an important factor for the decision I made.

Paying for my boatride

Here are some tips that I would recommend to achieve the funds you could use to pursue your travel or dreams.

1. Make a target

I’m a guy who loves to observe things so I could create ideas and designs. The more I observe the more great ideas I make. The more great ideas I make the more great ideas I could pursue. The more I pursue my many great ideas the more I become a failure. It is because I lack focus.

When I decided to pursue my great idea that I would travel around the Philippines, I made a target date and I made a target amount of money. This kept me focused on my goals. It made me learn to say NO from buying the many cool stuff that looked really amazing and focus more on buying what I only need. Besides I find my personal experiences on the road far greater than my experience with gadgets.

2. 5 Peso a day

Single, Searching and Travelling

February 9, 2012 by Josiah 68 Comments

I have seen many couples go from strangers to friends to being in a relationship just because they met during a travel. There was also a time where I was paired with a couple on an island hopping tour during their honeymoon! Sometimes I envy people who travel with their special someone. Especially during my solo travels where I get to enjoy the place on my own, eat something weird or sleep alone in a room fearing that a mumu would appear.

Though I practice solo-travel I’m not a fan of that type of travel. I only do it because the fear of not experiencing things is greater than the fear of being alone. I’m the type who wants to share with someone what I am experiencing. She may just be a travel companion or much better than a travel companion.

To my future special someone,

I may not offer you the window seat but I'll make sure to share you the best view.

I may not like swimming pools but I'll make sure to swim with you somewhere else.

Reasons Why We Travel

September 2, 2011 by Josiah 16 Comments

This post is about reason. Reasons why we travel.

Different people with different blogs having different reasons of doing a single activity (Travel) and most especially we all have a single ethnicity, Filipino.

Read on and know why we love to travel.

Ivan Cultura of Batang Lakwatsero – “I travel to LEARN and REDISCOVER.”

Journeying James of JourneyingJames – “I travel because I don’t have anything to do. I’m doomed if I dont.hahaha But seriously, I travel so I can extend my learning- I make the places I visit my classroom, the cultures my laboratory, the food my recess, the beach my summer break and the mountain my examination.”

Renevic Amago of Mandaragat. Mamumundok. Lagalag. – “Traveling is one of my hundred ways to enjoy life. I love mostly nature destination; this is where I find the best lounge on earth and peace I’m looking for.”

Lois Yasay of Sole Sisters – “I travel because I want to keep experiencing awe. Because the world was meant to be experienced, not imagined.”
