8 Challenges you will face in Art in Island at Cubao, Quezon City

January 3, 2018 by Josiah 112 Comments

We visited Art in Island last and this became one of my favorite places in the Metro Manila. It’s actually a museum, but not like your usual museum, it features 3D art where you are allowed to touch it, feel it and many times you can do crazy poses with the art. Interaction and picture taking is a must.

It was challenging too, as there were around 200 persons inside when we visited according to their staff.

The art is colorful and the size of it is amazing but what I really like about Art in Island is that I had to force myself to be creative.

Here are challenges that you might encounter on your visit to Art in Island.

Gerry’s Jeepney in Maginhawa Street, Quezon City

November 18, 2016 by Josiah 1 Comment

A friend of mine was visiting and wanted to eat at Maginhawa Street in Quezon City. The problem is I do not know where to eat there! Luckily, I was at SparkLab Innovation Center and asked friends on where to eat good Filipino food in Maginhawa. One of them suggested Gerry’s Jeepney and two other’s agreed with an exclamation point. Therefore, we dined at Gerry’s Jeepney.

If you're looking for good Filipino food I highly recommend Gerry's Jeepney in Maginhawa.

Getting to Gerry’s Jeepney

From Sparklab Innovation Center we went to the line of tricycles and told the driver to drop us off at Gerry’s Jeepney. After around 5 minutes he dropped us off at Gerry’s Jeepney and asked for the fare of 18 Pesos for 2 persons.

I did not do any research prior to our visit at Gerry’s Jeepney that’s why I was surprised to see jeepneys as dining areas. Though jeepneys for me symbolizes public transporation that goes through traffic and sometimes crazy drivers, this one has a fun vibe. A good environment for family and friends to get together.

After running 10kms in Race for Life 2010, I had to rush to UP Diliman for my 4.4km diagnostic run for my application in Lakay Kalikasan Mountaineers. “Tara, Beach House tayo.” one of my co-applicants said after our diagnostic run. With 14.4km “mileage” and no breakfast my answer was an automatic YES!

Nathaniel’s was originally our first choice before we got to Tomato Kick. Unfortunately, we arrived around 9:30PM and the store was closed. Luckily there was a holiday the Tuesday after our Tomato Kick food trip and my cousins decided to try it again, this time during lunch.

We never expected for the store to be spacious. The last time we arrived was during nighttime and we all thought that it had a  seating capacity of 20 dine-in customers. Our assumptions were wrong, the restaurant even has a second floor. Plus, you don’t get to be annoyed at someone who is seated next to you since the seats are well spaced apart.

According to the manager of Nathaniel’s, the branch in Timog Ave. was operating since 2 years ago. They temporarily closed and re-opened last August on the same building on a much bigger space, plus they get to be in front of the building which gives them better exposure.

The main branch of Nathaniel’s is at Pampanga and it’s actually a decade since its opening. Hearing that the restaurant originated from Pampanga, I had high expectations. People from Pampanga are known to be good cooks and Nathaniel’s did not stain my view of Kapampangan dishes, well almost.

Since Kring and her father arrived earlier than we did (actually we were late), they ordered ahead of us. Kring ordered Roast Beef (P150), a combination of soy sauce, beef with mashed potato on top plus rice and vegetables. And it was a good combo.

How To Get There

After some debate and trial-and-error, my cousins decided that we try Tomato Kick in Maginhawa St., UP Village.

Frankly, I was not interested in eating there. Tha last time I tried their dish was during my nephew’s birthday party which Tomato Kick catered. Their food was good, but not that good. But since it was getting late, hunger was slowly felt and with no clear direction to go, I agreed to try Tomato Kick.

While on our way to UP Village, Koo assured us that their food was much better when dining in. Interesting. A complete opposite of one of my Antipolo Food Trips.

We got seats quickly upon arriving. There was only a single group in the room. Little did we know that that small group has the power to amplify their voices to sound like 20 groups! No wonder they were the only group inside the room. Instead of just sitting there and
