Review: Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Philippines

February 17, 2017 by Josiah Leave a Comment

When we were checking for accommodations in Puerto Princesa, one of our criterias was to be near a beach. Preferably beachfront. Another criteria was to be away from the busy buzz of the city but not that far away just in case we wanted to do something in the city. That was when we decided to stay in Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. A bit higher than the usual rates compared to budget hotels and backpacker lodge but definitely worth the price.

Villa Escudero with our Grandfather in Tiaong, Quezon

February 9, 2017 by Josiah Leave a Comment

My grandfather visited us last Christmas Holidays and my brother and I decided to visit Villa Escudero to spend some quality time with our Lolo. Since my grandfather is around 85 years old we decided that we needed to rent a private vehicle (3,500 Pesos per 8 hours, rate does not include fuel) so that we could stop whenever my grandfather wanted to.

We spent one of the last days of the year spending time with our grandfather in Villa Escudero. He enjoyed the buffet lunch along the stream with the view of this waterfall and the cultural show. I hope this 2017 you will be able to connect with your family and friends, accomplish more things and be more awesome than you were last 2016. Happy New Year Everyone! #HappyNewYear #VillaEscudero #Quezon #Philippines #TravelPhilippines

Reservation

We were worried that there might be a limited number of slots for the daytrip at Villa Escudero Plantations and Resort so we decided to do a reservation online via Credit Card (villaescudero.com). My brother and I payed in full (1,600 Pesos/person) while my grandfather gets to have the Senior Citizen Discount.

Since we were going there on a holiday and peak season we were paying the 1,600 Pesos/person rate. Unlike when going there on a non-peak season and on a weekday, which has the lowest rate of 950 Pesos.

Matutinao Beach Resort in Badian, Cebu, Philippines

January 6, 2016 by Josiah 8 Comments

We decided that we needed to stay at Badian, Cebu a night before our Cebu Canyoneering activity since we knew that it will be a tiring activity. We asked for referrals with Kawasan Canyoneering if there is any place where we could stay for the night and they recommended Matutinao Beach Resort. They also gave the number of the resort, so we got in contact with them, reserved a room and enjoyed our stay. Not only is Matutinao Beach Resort a beach front resort, it is also the starting point of the Cebu Canyoneering, which is a really good for us.

Update August 21, 2018: There have been a lot of improvements in Matutinao Beach Resort. You can visit their Facebook Page to see the updated details.

Journey to Matutinao Beach Resort from Moalboal

12:05 PM After our beacheneering at White Beach in Moalboal, we were now riding a bus to Badian, Cebu. We told the bus conductor to drop us off at Matutinao Beach Resort. Luckily, he knows where that is so we could relax a bit on our bus ride.

12:30 PM (Travel Time 25 minutes, Fare 20 Pesos/person) The bus stopped what seems to be a really huge parking lot with a modern church. And then it started again, habal-habal drivers came flocking at us asking if we were doing the Canyoneering Activity. We just told them that we already had reservations with Kawasan Canyoneering ang Matutinao Beach Resort and they all dispersed.

I fell in love with Nacpan Beach the very first time that I went there. And I’ve been visiting this place countless of times ever since my blog post about it. There was even a time that I went there alone.

I love how it represents an untouched side of El Nido. I love how laid back it is and I love that you could walk in its long beach lined with only vegetations and coconut trees and just take a dip on the slowly descending shores whenever I want to.

There was even a time I was sitting on the sand and drinking coffee while waiting for the sunset while rain clouds were dominantly scattered above. And I still loved it. It was a bummer though that I did not get to see the sunset that time.

I’ve always wanted to stay there for a night. Actually, I already did last year and I just did it again last month with my former officemates who visited me here in Palawan.

And so after our Island Hopping from the town proper and a long wait because the tricycle driver forgot our arrangement to fetch us right after the island hopping tour, we got there around 8PM. Tired, sticky and espasol-like from the dust on the road going to Nacpan Beach. For that night we stayed at Jack’s Place.

Jack’s Place

If you’ve read about my blog post on Stella Maris in Bataan, you would have known that I love minimalists resorts with lots of open space, well maintained grass and concreteless pathways and Jack’s Place offers just that. Plus their rooms are made mostly of wood and indigenous materials with only less concrete.

It was a quiet morning of October 7, 2013 and I had totally nothing to do. In my pursuit to disrupt my unproductive day I decided to go around the town of El Nido and just keep walking. When I got to El Nido Corner that’s when I remembered a promise that I made to a staff of a restaurant near the cemetery. A promised for me to go back there during the day to take pictures of their place.

I continued my walk until I reach the community of Gawad Kalinga. You may know Gawad Kalinga for their housing & livelihood projects but this one was unique from what I saw of the other projects they had. This livelihood project was molded to El Nido being a prime tourist spot.
