Chocolate de Batirol in Camp John Hay, Baguio City

April 5, 2018 by Josiah 2 Comments

Everytime that I visit Baguio, I always make it a point to drop by Chocolate de Batirol in Camp John Hay. Sometimes I even visit here more than once in a single visit to Baguio. I’m just a fan of their hot chocolate and their suman.

The Walk to Chocolate de Batirol

On our visit last February 2017, after our stroll around the Historical Core in Camp John Hay which includes the Bell Amphitheater, Bell House & Cemetery of Negativism, we decided to head to Chocolate de Batirol. It was only 1.4kms so we decided to just walk.

3:27 PM Started walking from Historical Core to Chocolate de Batirol.

We did not really follow the path Google Maps gave us since there was a walkway going down from the Historical Core to the main road of Camp John hay. One of my favorite parts of Camp John Hay since we passed by tall Pine Trees.

We then passed by the entrance of The Manor.

Villa Escudero with our Grandfather in Tiaong, Quezon

February 9, 2017 by Josiah Leave a Comment

My grandfather visited us last Christmas Holidays and my brother and I decided to visit Villa Escudero to spend some quality time with our Lolo. Since my grandfather is around 85 years old we decided that we needed to rent a private vehicle (3,500 Pesos per 8 hours, rate does not include fuel) so that we could stop whenever my grandfather wanted to.

We spent one of the last days of the year spending time with our grandfather in Villa Escudero. He enjoyed the buffet lunch along the stream with the view of this waterfall and the cultural show. I hope this 2017 you will be able to connect with your family and friends, accomplish more things and be more awesome than you were last 2016. Happy New Year Everyone! #HappyNewYear #VillaEscudero #Quezon #Philippines #TravelPhilippines

Reservation

We were worried that there might be a limited number of slots for the daytrip at Villa Escudero Plantations and Resort so we decided to do a reservation online via Credit Card (villaescudero.com). My brother and I payed in full (1,600 Pesos/person) while my grandfather gets to have the Senior Citizen Discount.

Since we were going there on a holiday and peak season we were paying the 1,600 Pesos/person rate. Unlike when going there on a non-peak season and on a weekday, which has the lowest rate of 950 Pesos.

Circa 1850 Restaurant in Red Planet, Cagayan de Oro City

February 5, 2017 by Josiah 2 Comments

It was a slow morning of January 2017 when we stayed at Red Planet in Cagayan de Oro City. Since we wanted to take the day slow we decided to have our breakfast at Circa 1850 because it located at the first floor entrance of Red Planet. And that breakfast was followed by dinner and breakfast the next day.

Before going down we decided to bring our laptops so that after breakfast we would proceed to work in the hopes of having good ambience and fast WiFi. I am happy to say that Circa 1850 Eatery has its own WiFi and it was really fast.

Let us move on to what really matters about Circa 1850.

Ambience

In terms of ambience Circa 1850 was really classy. Wooden tables and chairs with bricks on the walls. I loved it! I am a fan of wood and bricks.

Also the distance of each chair was really roomy which gave a really good feeling since you would not be wary of hitting the other table. Or when you stand you don’t have to worry too much that you would interrupt other tables when heading to the comfort room.

Matutinao Beach Resort in Badian, Cebu, Philippines

January 6, 2016 by Josiah 8 Comments

We decided that we needed to stay at Badian, Cebu a night before our Cebu Canyoneering activity since we knew that it will be a tiring activity. We asked for referrals with Kawasan Canyoneering if there is any place where we could stay for the night and they recommended Matutinao Beach Resort. They also gave the number of the resort, so we got in contact with them, reserved a room and enjoyed our stay. Not only is Matutinao Beach Resort a beach front resort, it is also the starting point of the Cebu Canyoneering, which is a really good for us.

Update August 21, 2018: There have been a lot of improvements in Matutinao Beach Resort. You can visit their Facebook Page to see the updated details.

Journey to Matutinao Beach Resort from Moalboal

12:05 PM After our beacheneering at White Beach in Moalboal, we were now riding a bus to Badian, Cebu. We told the bus conductor to drop us off at Matutinao Beach Resort. Luckily, he knows where that is so we could relax a bit on our bus ride.

12:30 PM (Travel Time 25 minutes, Fare 20 Pesos/person) The bus stopped what seems to be a really huge parking lot with a modern church. And then it started again, habal-habal drivers came flocking at us asking if we were doing the Canyoneering Activity. We just told them that we already had reservations with Kawasan Canyoneering ang Matutinao Beach Resort and they all dispersed.

I was tired and hungry after our overnight stay at Nacpan Beach and a quick visit to the Mangrove Eco Park. Usually, I would always go to a karinderya because I do not have a budget for trying out higher level restaurants in El Nido. Luckily, my former officemates visited me here in Palawan and therefore we could all share the financial burden on trying out different restaurants.

With our powers combined we were able to afford one of the recently opened, highly recommended restaurants in El Nido – Mezzanine Restobar.

The Place

The grey building is Mezzanine Restobar

When we got to the vicinity we were actually deciding whether to go into Art Cafe or Mezzanine. We checked both menus that were placed on both restaurants the price range were almost the same.

Why did we choose Mezzanine? I’m not a fan of live bands in restaurants as I like to really get to talk to and know the people I am with. Art Cafe had a live band. I told my friends about it and that’s when we decided to dine at Mezzanine.

Entering, we passed through the small pathway on the side of the building and at the end a lot of slippers and shoes were on the floor. To enter one must remove their footwear.
