Pagbo Island in Roxas, Palawan, Philippines

May 2, 2015 by Josiah Leave a Comment

After our trip to Maqueregaen Falls my friends were getting more adventurous, so we decided to try the islands of Roxas, Palawan. And our first target was Pagbo Island since it was the closest one from the town proper of Roxas. So my friends called some friends to see if their boat were available and when scheduled schedules were moved and we were all set for this short half a day adventure.

10:20 AM – After a long wait due to some engine trouble with a van, we were at what locals call Badjao Village where our boat was waiting. We secured our motorcycles and started uploading ourselves to the boat. Albeit cloudy, the waters were calm, my favorite weather.

The reason why we chose Pagbo Island over the other islands of Roxas was because of the fruit bats that stays at the island. And we were not disappointed as from afar we could already do some bat watching as they were huge. By my amateur observation their span would around a meter or more.

Maqueregaen Falls in Roxas, Palawan, Philippines

The two goals for that day were (1) get to Maqueregaen Falls and (2) go back home.

It was 7:35 AM and our motorcycle was turning to left from the National Highway towards the inner parts of Brgy. Iraan in Roxas, Palawan. We were already running around 20 minutes heading north from the town proper of Roxas. On the rough road as fast as we could, we passed by wooden bridges and some children walking to school. Always picking the road on the left upon encountering forks until we reached the nipa hut where our friends were waiting.

It was around the summer of 2014 that we planned to visit Maqueregaen Falls. We never really had a concrete plan to visit here due to our busy schedules, but finally late January 2015 we were able to decide on what date we should proceed. And when the last monday of February 2015 came, we almost forgot that this trip existed, but it was all thanks to my friends that we still came here as this was already a set plan and everyone was excited to see a new waterfalls around the area.

We still waited for our other friends to arrive and finally at around 8:35 AM we started walking. Asking around I thought one of us have been there already, but it turns out that my friends who has lived for more than a decade in Roxas have not seen the waterfalls.

I’ve always asked myself why are most people more travelled around places other than their own town. Since I’ve moved to Palawan last January 2012, I’ve travelled to El Nido, Taytay, San Vicente, Puerto Princesa and other municipalities down south of Palawan but never the municipality where I currently reside, Roxas. It has been a pass by town of Palawan.

[9:58 AM] On July 22, 2013 I started my trip to slowly go around the good places of Roxas, Palawan. We started at Ching’s Buko Pie Shop in the town proper of Roxas. It’s a small canteen where they sell really good buko pie, too good that even those from other municipalities would stop by just to buy their buko pie before proceeding to their destination. But I was not there for the buko pie. I was there for their viands for us to eat at New Rizal Falls.
