South Cebu

Canyoneering in Badian/Alegria, Cebu, Philippines

January 30, 2016 by Josiah 4 Comments

It was the day after our visit at Lambug Beach. We woke up at Matutinao Beach Resort and got ready for our Canyoneering Activity. I think I got a little bit excited as I woke up around 6:00 AM when we are scheduled to start the Canyoneering Activity at around 9:00 AM. Luckily, I was not the only excited guy around as Lisa (Pinay Travelista) and Marky (Nomadic Experiences) were awake also.

We first went to the canteen near the Catholic Church of Matutinao. Then we bought some trail food and energy drinks from Kawasan Cooperative. We also bought some loperamides just in case a digestive emergency happens along the activity.

The plan that day was to do Cebu Canyoneering and later in the afternoon we would head to Osmeña Peak.

If you’re curious where we availed of our Cebu Canyoneering, we availed the activity with Kawasan Canyoneering. I would highly recommend them as they did a really good job in guiding us throughout the activity. They’re a local business that hires and trains guides from within the Badian and Alegria area. Since they are from the area they know much better than anyone else whether the activity is safe or not based on the local weather and other factors.

Tumalog Falls in Oslob, Cebu, Philippines

January 9, 2016 by Josiah 5 Comments

Initially, Tumalog Falls was not part of our itinerary. It was only added when we were researching about the Whale Shark Watching of Oslob that we encountered the really amazing waterfalls. When we researched, it turns out to be Tumalog Falls. The first time I saw the pictures of Tumalog Falls I knew that I had to go there and we did.

Upon arrival at MB’s Sunrise View Resort from our earlier adventure up Osmeña Peak, we decided to have lunch first and take a nap. It was set that we were visiting Tumalog Falls start 3 PM.

Lambug Beach in Badian, Cebu, Philippines

January 6, 2016 by Josiah 4 Comments

We already had plans for Lambug Beach later that day but we decided to rest first at Matutinao Beach Resort and do the visit late in the afternoon. Eventually, while they were resting I was outside looking for a banana as I wanted to load on potassium before the Cebu Canyoneering Activity the next day.

Finding the Banana

I found out that bananas could not be bought at the vicinity of Matutinao Beach Resort or somewhere outside. Everyone I asked told us that we should head to the Market of Badian for us to buy bananas. Luckily, Lisa (Pinay Travelista) and Marky (Nomadic Experiences) went out of the room and joined me on my plan to head to the town proper of Badian.

Matutinao Beach Resort in Badian, Cebu, Philippines

January 6, 2016 by Josiah 8 Comments

We decided that we needed to stay at Badian, Cebu a night before our Cebu Canyoneering activity since we knew that it will be a tiring activity. We asked for referrals with Kawasan Canyoneering if there is any place where we could stay for the night and they recommended Matutinao Beach Resort. They also gave the number of the resort, so we got in contact with them, reserved a room and enjoyed our stay. Not only is Matutinao Beach Resort a beach front resort, it is also the starting point of the Cebu Canyoneering, which is a really good for us.

Update August 21, 2018: There have been a lot of improvements in Matutinao Beach Resort. You can visit their Facebook Page to see the updated details.

Journey to Matutinao Beach Resort from Moalboal

12:05 PM After our beacheneering at White Beach in Moalboal, we were now riding a bus to Badian, Cebu. We told the bus conductor to drop us off at Matutinao Beach Resort. Luckily, he knows where that is so we could relax a bit on our bus ride.

12:30 PM (Travel Time 25 minutes, Fare 20 Pesos/person) The bus stopped what seems to be a really huge parking lot with a modern church. And then it started again, habal-habal drivers came flocking at us asking if we were doing the Canyoneering Activity. We just told them that we already had reservations with Kawasan Canyoneering ang Matutinao Beach Resort and they all dispersed.

Lechon at Carcar City, Cebu, Philippines

January 2, 2016 by Josiah 2 Comments

Since we have decided not to pursue Bantayan Island and concentrate on South Cebu we got ourselves almost 2 full days of free time in our itinerary.

The night before we met with Travel Bloggers from Cebu City and they highly recommended to try the lechon of Carcar City. We added this on our itinerary and a visit to Moalboal. We decided to do a late start (10AM) from Mandaue City for us to reach Carcar City at around 12 noon.

Travel to Carcar City from Mandaue City

10:32 AM From our stay at The Orchard Suites in Mandaue City, where we made the last minute major change in our itinerary, we rode a taxi to the South Bus Terminal of Cebu City. It was a smooth ride and we only experienced minimal traffic since we left after the rush hour.

It was uneventful ride except for the additional 10 Pesos/vehicle entrance fee going inside the South Bus Terminal.

10:58 AM (26 minutes travel time, 140 Pesos Taxi Ride) We arrived at South Bus Terminal and quickly went to the line of Ceres Bus and looked for either the bus going to Bato via Oslob or Bato via Barili. Both routes have the same travel up to Carcar City, from there they would be splitting directions before heading to Bato.
