Registration and Training

When I heard about the second Ironman 70.3 in the Philippines I quickly asked my training buddy, Cat Gamez, if she would like to join the relay of the said event. She agreed and she looked for our biker. And she found one, Miles Young. I was surprised how easy for her to find a biker for the event, one of the reasons was the payment was not cheap, US$250 or almost about PhP11,250 for each team during early registration. She explained that Kuya Miles wanted us to experience a big event in endurance racing. And in February 27, we filled the registration form, entered the credit card number and got the confirmation that we are now registered for the race.

I already had tried swimming 1,500 meters non-stop in a pool but yet to experience an actual

Training with the Trans

August 8, 2010 by Josiah 6 Comments

I swam 2kms and ran 6kms in Los Baños and felt happy and sad.

Why happy?

Enna collecting the simulation fee

I get to train with a strong triathlon team, the Trantados. Though their name does connote a negative impression, the whole group is actually an inspiration to become stronger and faster. There are a lot of strong triathlons in the team. Just by swimming with them I get to realize how weak I am, what I can become and what I can surpass. I also noticed that not all of them had an athletic body, but seeing them pushing themselves further inspired me to push myself too. Slowly but surely, I don’t want the same accident on my first relay.

Why sad?

I was pretty confident with my swim since my last 2km swim before the simulation took me 43 minutes to finish, but I did 50+ minutes during the simulation! The realization of how ill prepared I am for Camarines Sur race this August 22 really made a mark. I was the third to the last swimmer who went out of the pool. I do not even know if the other two were also doing half ironman distance or doing sprint or fun triathlon distance.

I’ve though of four reasons to what actually happened during the

Ateneo Aquathlon 2010: Cat’s Perspective

March 21, 2010 by Cat Leave a Comment

For our category, 22-29years old Female, 3 heats were expected based from the numbers of registered participants. But, for some reason, maybe 2/3 of the participants opted to watch the Pacquiao-Clottey Fight or maybe because it was too late before we start, less than 20 females participated in the said category.

Swimming

We did 600m swim. And did I mention from the 16 participants, I was the only one who is not a swimmer? For that, I was the last one to finish the swim leg. It took me 19 grueling minutes. I failed my training buddy and my mentor, Kuya Bobong. I did not start and finish strong. It seems all my hard work did not pay off. It was unfair, I thought.

Ateneo Aquathlon 2010: Dane’s Perspective

It’s almost a week now since the Ateneo Aquathlon 2010 event, I was not a participant there but I went coz’ my younger brother [/boss] Josiah [Sai] asked me to take pictures while he and Cat partake in the event. It’s my first time witnessing an aquathlon, coz’ I’ve only been to a marathon when I joined Kenny’s Urbanite Run 2009. Ever since then I couldn’t get myself to drag my feet out of the bed and join another marathon, as those kinds of activities usually takes place early in the morning [way too early for an insomniac like me].
