My Top Things to Do in Iligan City, Philippines

January 26, 2015 by Josiah 18 Comments

For a small city, Iligan City has many interesting things you can try. Most of what’s written below are about food but what Iligan can be proud of is their waterfalls. In fact Iligan City is nicknamed the City of Majestic Waterfalls.

Here are interesting things you can do and places to visit in Iligan City as part of my Travel Guide there.

Dodiongan Falls in Iligan City, Philippines

Dodiongan Falls

1. Waterfalling

Waterfalling actually means waterfalls hopping and in Iligan you can do this as most of the waterfalls are just less than an hour from the city proper. But if you have limited time you should not miss Tinago Falls, Maria Cristina Falls and Dodiongan Falls.

If you have not been to the waterfalls of Iligan City, then you have not been to Iligan City.

Lechon in Iligan City, Philippines

2. Lechon

Of all the Lechons in the Philippines, this lechon from Iligan City is the best for me. And I know a lot of people who says that this is the best lechon in the country. Our family would even order lechon from Iligan to be brought to Manila during big gatherings. Don’t believe me? Try it first before you say anything.

My Top Things to do in El Nido, Palawan, Philippines

September 13, 2013 by Josiah 12 Comments

Update: December 9, 2014 – Added Mangrove Eco-Park and Mezzanine Restobar.

Ever since I moved here in Palawan, I’ve been to El Nido more than what my fingers could count and just recently I noticed that I still do not have a collective post on what you could really do in El Nido. So here I am writing this post so you would know what I like to do there.

In order of my preference. Starting from the least to the my must do things in El Nido, Palawan.

7. Sunset Viewing in Corong-Corong Beach

Sunset at Brgy. Corong-Corong, El Nido, Palawan

Since the Taraw Cliffs blocks the sunset view in the Town Proper of El Nido, one could visit the beach of Corong-Corong during the sunset for minimum fare with a tricycle (10 Pesos/person). The beach has a gradual depression which makes a wide beach during low tide where we walked around during the sunset.

14 Things to do in Romblon Island, Romblon

June 28, 2012 by Josiah 11 Comments

From Manila I rode a bus for 2 hours to get to Batangas Port. I waited for 3 hours for the boat to leave. Then it took us 10 hours travelling on calm seas to get to Romblon Island. When we arrived in Romblon Island I wanted to see the world of famous Romblon Marble and bang my head onto it. ANG HABA NG BYAHE!!!

But luckily I had Dazl, Marky and Pam with me to think twice of banging my head to a marble so that I would still have companions on this trip.

Anyways, here are 14 reasons why I should not bang my head to a marble.

1. Hunt and eat the Boknoy

Boknoy Siopao in Romblon Island, Romblon

Boknoy is a type of siopao that is currently only found in Romblon Island. The difference between the boknoy from the usual asado and bolabola flavored siopao is the sauce. Boknoy siopao already has a sauce inside so one could just eat it without the messy application of siopao sauce. If you want to know how good it is, in my visit to Romblon province I ate a total of 15 pieces of these.

2. Go inside St. Joseph Church

Saint Joseph Church in Romblon Island, Romblon

There’s an old church in the Poblacion of Romblon Island and the inside is marble-ous! There’s also a bell tower on its side.

3. View the sunset at Fort San Andres

Fort San Andres in Romblon Island, Romblon

Only a 20 minute walk and climb of stairs from the port one may reach an old spanish watchtower. Frankly, the place is not well maintained and there already residents around it that hides the other facilities of the watchtower. But still it is a great place to see the town especially the sunset.

4. Get a different perspective of the town from ITT

Many of the rice terraces of Hungduan, Ifugao are one of the best I have seen around the Cordilleras.

2. Walk on the Rice Terraces

Just seeing is really not enough. Experience Hungduan Rice Terraces up close and personal.

Imagine waking up in a native house in the middle of Hapao Rice Terraces

4. Relax in Bogyah Hot Spring

9 Things to Do at Sabang in Puerto Princesa, Palawan

February 21, 2012 by Josiah 5 Comments

We took a packaged tour to Underground River last October of 2010 but somehow the backpacker inside me was saying that it is best to stay in Sabang than just be controlled by the packaged tours that will take you there for a day just to see the famous Subterranean River. So my brother and I visited Sabang again last  weekend to see how awesome it really is.

Below is my personal list of what you should do when you are in the town of Sabang in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

1. Visit the Majestic Underground River

Inside the Underground River

At my visit there last October of 2010, I was really amazed when we got inside the Underground River. There were a lot of cool stone formations and birds and bats that I can only feel but not see because of the low light inside the cave. There’s also the guides of the Underground River that will paddle you in and out of the cave while telling you different interesting and funny facts about the cave.

2. Take a tour in the Mangrove Forest

Paddle Boat Mangrove Tour

Learn why a Mangrove Forest is important by taking the paddle boat tour at the eastern end of town. Best to go there during low tide as you will see many animals that depend on the mangrove for survival and if you’re the daring type you can ask your tour guide to get you a fresh-from-the-wood tamilok that you may eat it.

3. Dip in Sabang Falls

Sabang Falls

Ever heard of a waterfall facing the sea? That’s the shortest way that I could describe Sabang Falls but there’s more to it than just a falls, it’s actually where the people of Sabang get their water. But you can take a dip at the basin below because the water
