A couple of weeks ago Cat was inviting me on The Green Miles Run. I didn’t register immediately thinking that the run was still 3 weeks away. I then registered on friday, they said that theregistration has ended. Since my mind was set, I was determined to run 15kms on March 21, 2010.
I haven’t ran in MOA, not for a race nor for a simple jog around the complex. Since I wanted to try this, my decision was made, I will be a bandit runner.
“For the opening remarks, please welcome Mr. Piolo Pascual!” What?!? I didn’t know Piolo was there. I didn’t know that there were a lot of delegations from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). There was also a parade.
The 15kms run started and I patiently waited for my chance to go in the crowd. When I saw the Army running in platoon position, I quickly went in and ran by their side just to see if I can be paced with the Army men. They were chanting 2x
I am a rifleman….
I am a killing man…
Wave your knife on my head…
I love you my dear wife…
If i die in the battlefield…
You can marry another…
You can have my pension for your honeymoon…
(Can’t remember the exact order and exact words)
Thus i enjoyed my first kilometer with the Army. They were really strong.
The next plan was simple. Do not drink, since I was a bandit runner, just keep on running and never get intimidated by the pace of others. It was working, until that faithful moment. The sun was already shining, I was tired and a lot of perspiration was getting out of my body, when I saw a bottle, a cold sweaty bottle of water on the water station. I said to myself, no I will not drink, I am a bandit runner. But there were people that are not related to the event that were getting water. So I went there and took the cold and refreshing water. Sorry organizers.
At about 12kms of running, there was a man running by my side. It was man to man, there was no need for exchange of words. We jast ran and ran, pacing each other. And when were about 14kms on the race, he just said that he couldn’t go on anymore. I then spoke to him and said to not stop and just continue running, but he couldn’t do it anymore. “Kaya pa yan! Wag ka susuko!” was my last words before I left him.
At the end, I wasn’t planning to finish the run by going through the finish line. But Cat then called me back to the finish line so that we could run my last 50 meters together while my brother was taking pictures. Boy, it was a happy 50 meters.
I finished my 15kms in 2 exactly 2 hours. woo! Slow, but I am determined to beat my Personal Record (PR). Next time I will register early so that I would not be a bandit runner again.
So what to do you do after a 15kms run? Check Cat’s blog post here.
Here are The Green Mile pictures my brother took.
