After conquering Gomot Falls in Cajidiocan, Sibuyan Island 2 days ago and saying goodbye to 2 of our travel buddies, namely Marky and Pam, we were now in the municipality of San Fernando. One of our targets in this municipality in Sibuyan Island was to visit the island named Cresta de Gallo, unfortunately, we decided not to proceed as this would cost us 2,500 Pesos/boat for a whole day trip. We still had 16 days to go to explore the different tourist spots of Romblon and budget was a real concern.
The afternoon a day before Dazl and I went around town to search for places we could visit and it turns out that there are 3 tourist spots we could visit if we rent a tricycle for 700 Pesos. So we arranged our tricycle to pick us up at around 6AM from our lodging, Sea Breeze Inn, as we wanted an early start so we could explore more of San Fernando. So with Dazl, her cousin and I, we went on an adventure to visit the 3 tourist spots near San Fernando.
Here’s how our adventure went.
5:00 AM – Wake up, freshen up and breakfast.
6:30 AM – Pick up of tricycle.
6:45 AM – Arrival at Busay Falls Jump off. Rain started to fall.
7:00 AM – Rain was too hard that we had to take cover on a nearby house.
7:30 AM – Checked if the river we passed by earlier was already flooded. It wasn’t flooded but some of the path we passed by was already collecting water.
7:45 AM – We decided to abort our walk to Busay Falls and continue to the next spot. Start walk going back to jumpoff. 🙁
8:00 AM – Back at jumpoff. Ride tricycle to next destination.
9:00 AM – Arrival at Cantingas River Resort (10 Pesos/person entrance fee). We bought some snacks on the way.
9:05 AM – Started exploring the place even if it was raining.
9:30 AM – Ride tricycle to next destination.
10:19 AM – Arrival at Dagubdob Picnic Grove Visitor Information Center in the municipality of España. Registered (20 Pesos/person Entrance Fee).
10:22 AM – Ride tricycle again to Dagubdob Picnic Grove jumpoff.
10:27 AM – Start guided walking tour around Dagubdob Picnic Grove.
11:08 AM – We couldn’t take it as the waters of Dagubdob Falls was really inviting us for a swim. So we swam even if we did not have any extra clothes!
11:23 AM – End of swimming and back to exploring.
11:56 AM – Back at where we left our tricycle. Ride tricycle going back to the town of San Fernando.
1:00 PM – Arrival at the town of San Fernando. Look for lunch at the karinderyas (eateries). We went from karinderya to karinderya but there was no food anymore as it was already late. HUNGRY!!!
1:15 PM – We got lucky as one karinderya inside the market opened late and her food was really good and affordable too. 🙂
Over lunch we talked about Busay Falls and how near it was from town and we got the bright idea that we should go back walking as it was really near town.
1:35 PM – End of lunch and start walking back to Busay Falls.
2:00 PM – Back at Busay Falls jumpoff. Continue walking and asking people for directions and hoping for wild dogs not to be on the way.
2:27 PM – Arrival at Busay Falls.
2:35 PM – Busay Falls waters was again very inviting that I swam again without extra clothes!
3:39 PM – Walk back to the town of San Fernando.
4:40 PM – Arrival at the town of San Fernando. We got a little bit lost along the way.

Am I happy even if we did not get to Cresta de Gallo?
The truth is I am a bit regretful that we did not get to Cresta de Gallo as it is more expensive to go back to Sibuyan Island just to visit Cresta de Gallo than go there when we were still there. We had to face the harsh reality of budget. BUT what we did was definitely worth it. It was my first time to see a developed waterfalls (Dagubdob Picnic Grove) that I really like as it was developed without cement. And the waters of the 2 waterfalls was really inviting for a swim! It’s rare for me to go for a swim when I did not bring any extra clothes.
To answer my question directly, it’s a mixed emotion. But because I did not get to Cresta de Gallo, I have no point of comparison if our tricycle tour was more worth it than visiting the island so I’m only a little bit regretful, but generally I am happy to visit 3 wonderful spots near San Fernando, Sibuyan Island, Romblon.
Author’s Note:
I did not put much information on Busay Falls, Cantingas River Resort and Dagubdob Picnic Grove as I want to create different blog post for each one of them. This post does not give justice to each of their beauty.

sibuyan is a wonderful place. A perfect place to which to retire.
😀
I agree! I really enjoyed Sibuyan Island when I went there.
Great Info. I visited Sibuyan back in 1997, I am going there this Holy Week, it would be nice to see how much the place has changed. Will be bringing old photos circa 97 to see the difference.
Out of 771 towns and cities of Luzon, I have 63 to go. This Romblon leg brings the notch down to the last 47 towns.
Cheers!
I wished I could go back in time and visit places when they were still not known. You’re very lucky to have seen Sibuyan back in 1997.
I hope you would finish visiting all the 771 towns and cities of Luzon really soon. Keep on traveling!
Cheers back!
